Course Description

What should tax professionals know about preparing returns for taxpayers who are overseas? This course focuses on tax preparation for United States citizens who work and live abroad, as well as for US citizens who live in the US but have earned income from foreign countries.

Since resident aliens are generally subject to the same tax rules as US citizens, the topics in this course also generally apply to resident aliens who have earned income abroad, since these non-US citizens are considered tax residents of the United States.

After completing this course, you will be able to:

  1. Identify the filing requirements that apply to US citizens and resident aliens abroad
  2. Understand the tax benefits that potentially apply to foreign income
  3. Prepare tax returns for overseas-based US citizens and resident aliens
